Direk Laurenti Dyogi clarifies issues raised by MTRCB on this week’s task!

Earlier today, the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) gave an urgent call to the PBB Management. The weekly task, most popularly known by its title “The Naked Fan Dance”, has given rise to much controversy and mixed emotions. In a relatively conservative society, the challenge of wearing only flimsy pieces of cloth as cover-up raised the eyebrows of many. Through the teasers and updates, the public was given a glimpse of what the housemates were preparing, and the possibility of physical exposure was quite high. Issues of the housemates compromising their dignity and chastity were brought up. These concerns were not monopolized by the official review board, but were shared by many civilian persons as well.

PBB Management was quick to respond to this concern. It assured the board and other concerned people that the welfare and security of the housemates were of top priority. Though the task did push through, complete with the arranged props and costume, it was done in such a way that the housemates were well-protected. Direk Laurenti Dyogi, the Business Unit Head of PBB, explained that the task was a test of character and that the reality show would inevitably bring out different aspects of the housemates’ personality. In the course of the show, there appears to be a search for that person with exemplary character who people may look up to. The actual performance of the dance was not the be-all and end-all of the task; the decision-making process that the housemates went through and the factors that affected it were actually of more importance. Peer pressure, the need to belong, the weight of convictions and personal values are just some of the factors that come into play. The friction and tension that came along were needed to give a certain push to highlight their personalities.

On whether the call from MTRCB signified friction between the board and PBB Management, Direk Lauren is confident that it was done out of concern and duty to the public. There is mutual respect between the two parties. Besides, PBB Management knows better than to sacrifice the program. Rest assured that the concerns of the MTRCB and the public are taken into consideration and acted upon.

Watch the actual performance of the Naked Fan Dance tonight and be the judge of this controversial task on PBB Double Up Primetime, right after Dahil May Isang Ikaw.
