Ex-PBB housemate Yuri Okawa on her eviction: 'Thankful ako because what happened made me stronger'!

Yuri Okawa was the first housemate to be evicted via vote in Pinoy Big Brother Double Up. The Filipino-Japanese was voted out by fans from the reality competition before the house merge. In an interview with ABS-CBN.com, Yuri said that she had already accepted her sad fate. “At first I was scared because I thought the people hated me. Baka paglabas ko i-boo nila ako o batuhin ng kamatis. Pero nung nakita ko ‘yung looks ng mga tao sa labas nakita ko na hindi naman sila galit sa akin. May nagchi-cheer pa nga sa akin kaya sobrang natuwa ako. Thank you sa inyo.”

Yuri was crying when she was first evicted and she couldn’t stop hugging her mom. The ex-housemate revealed that she was asking her mom if the people outside the PBB house were angry at her, but her mom told her that there was nothing to worry about. Yuri explained that she doesn’t resent the public’s decision to evict her from PBB. “Ang totoo thankful ako because what happened made me stronger. Noong last day ko sa house nalulungkot ako kung bakit ako ang baka na-vote out ng mga tao. Pero I didn’t dwell on the sadness. Ayokong mag-isip ng negative kasi wala namang mangyayari. Nagisip na lang ako ng positive na kung lalabas man ako at least makakasama ko na ‘yung family ko. Everything has a reason. God has His plans for all of us, kahit na masakit, hindi naman Niya tayo papabayaan.”

The 26-year-old confessed that she already had an idea that her strong and opinionated personality made her a bit unpopular among PBB viewers. Yuri said that she was just showing her true colors inside the house, but she was also humble enough to admit her mistakes. “Malakas talaga kasi ang personality. I just showed who I really am, but sorry kung may mga na-offend ako. I didn’t mean na makasakit ng kung sino.” She added that although she was very outspoken, she never backstabbed anyone. “Wala akong siniraan na housemate behind their backs. Sinabi ko lang kung ano ‘yung ayaw ko o nararamdaman ko sa kanila and for me hindi backstabbing ‘yun. I just verbalized lahat ng emotions ko pero hindi ako nangaway ng kung sino lalo na nang patalikod.”

Yuri appealed to those who judged her based solely on what was shown about her on television. “Okay lang mag-judge ng tao. Pero sana magbigay din tayo ng benefit of the doubt. Subukan nating kilalanin ‘yung tao. Marami kasi tayong hindi pa alam. Kapag sinubukan nating intindihan ‘yung tao baka maunawaan natin kung bakit ganun ‘yung nakikita natin sa kanya. Lawakan natin ang ating pagiisip.” She further shared an ex-housemate, Uber host Mariel Rodriguez, advised her on how to handle the public’s harsh criticisms. “Ang bait ni Mariel. Sabi niya it doesn’t matter if people hate you. We can’t please everybody. Basta you know who you are and you know you’re not a bad person. As long as you believe in yourself you will be okay. Happy pa rin ako na meron pa rin may gusto sa akin.”
